Our Khomas Highland Camp is rustic, comfortable and designed to give you an authentic African bush experience. There is no need for unnecessary luxury when the landscape itself is the attraction. After a long day in the mountains, there is something special about returning to camp, enjoying a drink around the fire and watching the last light disappear over the highlands.

Hunting in the highlands

Hunting in the Khomas Highlands demands patience, fitness and determination.

The rugged terrain and broken country often mean long days on foot, glassing mountainsides and valleys before making a careful stalk. It is hunting that rewards those who enjoy the challenge of getting close to an animal in its natural environment.

The area supports abundant populations of naturally occurring wildlife, providing a diverse and exciting hunting experience.

One of the species that truly stands out is Hartmann’s mountain zebra. Endemic to Namibia, these beautifully adapted animals are perfectly at home in the rugged highland terrain and provide an exciting and challenging hunt.

Leopard hunts

The Khomas Highlands are also where we conduct most of our leopard hunts.

This is a unique and demanding hunt that requires patience, careful preparation and a thorough understanding of the area and its wildlife. We have developed an excellent knowledge of the leopard population and hunting conditions in the area, resulting in a very high success rate.

Two very different sides of Namibia

One of the advantages of hunting with Schalk Pienaar Safaris is the opportunity to experience more than one of our hunting areas during the same safari.

We often combine a Kalahari Camp safari with a Khomas Highland Camp safari, allowing hunters to experience two completely different landscapes and hunting environments during one trip.

The contrast is remarkable—from the red sands, thornveld and open plains of the Kalahari to the rugged mountains and valleys of the Khomas Highlands.

Travelling between the two areas is part of the adventure. By road, the journey takes approximately four hours. For those who would rather experience Namibia from the air, we can make the journey in our Cessna 206 bush plane, turning the transfer into a spectacular scenic flight of approximately one hour and twenty minutes.

It is not simply a way of getting from one camp to another. It is another opportunity to experience the vastness and beauty of Namibia.
