The antelope with the unmistakable ring
Waterbuck are large, powerful antelope named for their strong association with water. The most recognizable feature is the distinctive white ring around the rump.
A mature bull stands approximately 4½–5 feet at the shoulder and can weigh around 500–600 lbs, carrying heavy, heavily ridged horns.
Hunting the Waterbuck
Waterbuck prefer areas with thicker vegetation, often close to rivers, dams or other sources of water. Their alertness and ability to disappear into cover make stalking them a rewarding challenge.
A mature bull standing in the shade beside a watercourse is an iconic African sight.
