The red antelope of the open plains
The Red Hartebeest is a striking antelope with a long, sloping back, high shoulders and beautifully curved horns.
A mature animal stands approximately 4½ feet at the shoulder and can weigh around 350–440 lbs, with mature bulls being considerably heavier than cows.
Hunting the Red Hartebeest
Red hartebeest hunting often involves glassing large open areas and using terrain and vegetation to close the distance. Their alert nature and preference for open country can make the final stalk particularly exciting.
A mature bull standing on an open Kalahari ridge is a sight that stays with you long after the hunt is over.
