The little antelope with a big reputation
The Common Duiker is a compact, secretive antelope found throughout much of southern Africa.
It stands around 18–20 inches at the shoulder and weighs approximately 30–45 lbs. Its name comes from the Afrikaans word duiker, meaning "diver", referring to the way it disappears into thick vegetation when alarmed.
Hunting the Duiker
Duiker are usually solitary and rely heavily on cover. Hunting one requires patience, sharp eyes and an understanding of the bush.
It is a wonderful example of how challenging African hunting can be regardless of the size of the animal. Duiker is also part of Africa’s tiny ten antelope species.
