The Gnu
The Blue Wildebeest, commonly known as the Gnu, is one of Africa's most recognizable plains animals. Its powerful shoulders, sloping back, beard and curved horns give it a distinctly prehistoric appearance.
A mature bull stands around 4½–5 feet at the shoulder and can weigh approximately 500–600 lbs.
Hunting the Blue Wildebeest
Wildebeest are extremely alert and often associate with zebra and other plains game. A successful hunt requires patience, good glassing and careful positioning.
Judging a mature bull from the herd is part of the challenge—and getting a clean opportunity can be much harder than it first appears.
